Photos: What an oil spill looks like in your backyard

Over the weekend, an ExxonMobil spill leaked thousands of barrels-worth of crude oil and forced 22 households to evacuate in Arkansas. Exxon spokesman Alan Jeffers said some homes “appear to have small amounts of oil on their foundations.” These photos were submitted to A rkansasmatters.com, the website of TV station KARK, which granted Quartz permission to republish.
