Chinese ships circle Japanese-controlled islands

China has sent four surveillance ships to the islands in the East China Sea that are the source of an intense spat with Japan. This comes after a brief lull in the vitriolic war of words between the East Asian neighbours over the islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. The dispute has caused violent protests in China, where rioters have targeted Japanese businesses, in some cases with arson.
